United pertaruh tenaga muda

OWEN bakal mengetuai jentera serangan United pada pertemuan Piala Liga menentang Wolves awal pagi esok.

MANCHESTER - Juara bertahan, Manchester United memulakan kempen
bakal membentuk benteng pertahanan bersama Richie De Laet, Jonny Evans
United ketika menewaskan Manchester City 4-3 Ahad lalu bakal
- AFP

Jaringan bijak Owen buat Capello pening kepala

LONDON:
Manchester United, tempoh hari.

Pengkritik berkata ia bukan jaringan biasa tetapi penyudah

sentiasa tabah," katanya. - Agensi

Pembelian terbaik Ferguson

SEPANJANG 23 tahun membimbing Manchester United, terlalu ramai

Berikut senarai 10 pemain dianggap pembelian terbaik United.

No. 1: Roy Keane (3.75 juta pound (RM21.9 juta) pada 1993)
Punca

eranya.

No. 3: Eric Cantona (1.2 juta pound (RM7.01 juta) pada 1992)
Bintang
Old Trafford. Cantona salah seorang penyerang paling berbakat yang
pernah disaksikan di United. Serangan ala kung-fu yang dilakukannya
terhadap seorang peminat Crystal Palace mungkin menjejaskan imejnya
tapi dia tetap dimaafkan penyokong United.

No. 4: Cristiano Ronaldo (12 juta pound (RM70.18 juta) pada 2003)
Pemain
dipersembahkan musim lalu. Pergerakan bintang Portugal itu sukar untuk
dihalang mana-mana pemain ketika membantu United memenangi Liga
Juara-Juara Eropah dan Liga Perdana Inggeris. Fergie sebenarnya terlalu

No. 5: Ruud van Nistelrooy (19 juta pound (RM111.1 juta) pada 2001)
Pemain
United. Fergie cuba mendapatkan pengganti penyerang itu tapi beliau
kini mungkin menyesal kerana melepaskannya pergi.

No. 6: Denis Irwin (625,000 pound (RM3.65 juta) pada 1990)
Pemain
berharga hingga membuatkannya beraksi selama 12 musim di Old Trafford.
jarang melakukan kesilapan. Dengan kebolehannya mengambil sepakan
percuma - ketika sebelum tibanya David Beckham - membuatkannya sering
digeruni lawan.

No. 7: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (1.5 juta pound (RM8.7 juta) pada 1996)
Penyerang

No. 8: Rio Ferdinand (30 juta pound (RM175.3 juta) pada 2002)
Pemain
sukar ditewaskan selain mengepalai pasukan sepanjang ketiadaan Gary
Neville.
pemergian Jaap Stam.

No. 9: Steve Bruce (800,000 pound (RM4.66 juta) pada 1987)
Bruce
dan rakan gandingannya, Gary Pallister sama-sama hebat. Tapi pemain

No. 10: Wayne Rooney (27 juta pound (RM157.5 juta) pada 2004)
Bintang
membuatkan aksinya sentiasa dicemburui.

Welbeck wira United

kelmarin.

MANCHESTER - Danny Welbeck muncul wira Manchester United apabila dia
menjaringkan gol tunggal ketika menewaskan Wolves 1-0 pada aksi
pusingan ketiga Piala Liga kelmarin.
Terdahulu, percaturan The Red Devils sedikit terjejas apabila
pemain pertahanannya, Fabio Da Silva dibuang padang pada minit ke-30
selepas mengasari Mi- chael Kightly.

Ferguson beri amaran awal

MANCHESTER - "Kami belum mencapai tahap terbaik."
Begitupun, Ferguson mengakui beliau masih lagi merasai kekalahan

Stoke 0 United 2

A dominant display from the
Reds coupled with goals from Dimitar Berbatov and John O’Shea secured
an impressive 2-0 victory over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, but
the star of the show once again was Ryan Giggs.

Stoke 0-2 Man United

Ryan Giggs produced another magnificent masterclass to guide Manchester United towards a deserved win at Stoke. For
55 minutes, Nani occupied the left-wing berth Giggs has filled for so
long but brought only groans and growls of frustration from exasperated
team-mates as United failed to make the most of their dominance.
Predictably, the response for Giggs was somewhat different.
First English football's most decorated player showed all the
composure of his 35 years to provide Dimitar Berbatov with a tap-in.
Fifteen minutes later, Giggs curled over the free-kick that allowed
John O'Shea to mark his 350th appearance with a goal as the Irishman
guided his header into the far corner.
In both instances, the goalscorer immediately ran to their 35-year-old team-mate to offer their thanks.
On the touchline, Nani could only watch - and maybe learn - because at some point, he will have to improve.
After following the trail blazed by Cristiano Ronaldo four years
earlier by leaving Sporting Lisbon for Old Trafford in 2007, Nani
enjoyed a productive first season under Ferguson's tutelage.
Unfortunately, the Portugal international seemed to stagnate last
term, to such an extent there was a wide body of opinion he would be
released should a suitable buyer be found.
Nani himself felt he was capable of filling Ronaldo's immense shoes,
although no-one truly believed he would get the chance until deadline
day came and went with Ferguson sticking to his word not to buy anyone
else.
It is true that Nani possesses the pace and balance of his
compatriot. Unfortunately, the marked difference is in the final ball,
or sometimes the decision.
A cross might go to the far post when it should have been the near,
or he might decide to shoot instead of playing a more obvious pass to
someone in a better position.
In both instances, Wayne Rooney missed out.
Even with the Britannia Stadium at its most raucous, Rooney's bellows of frustration cannot have been missed.
As he stood alone and watched Nani's shot sail high over the
crossbar, the in-form England star beat the ground in frustration
before delivering a volley of abuse that finally turned to a despairing
plea.
Nani did bring a smart save out of Thomas Sorensen close to
half-time but unless he finds some consistency, Ferguson will
eventually search for someone better.
All of this would have been irrelevant if Nani's wing partner,
Antonio Valencia, had snaffled the golden opportunity that came his way
after just nine minutes of a one-sided opening period.
There was a fear when Ferguson made Valencia his top-price
£17million summer buy the Ecuador might not prove the most clinical
finisher.
So far, he has had very little chance to either disprove or solidify that theory.
It finally arrived when he burst past United academy graduate Ryan Shawcross and bore down on Sorensen's goal.
Valencia never looked entirely comfortable, a fact borne out by the finish, a disappointing chip that bounced harmlessly wide.
Not that Stoke were able to take advantage as the game took on a
similar pattern after half-time, although in Nani's case that was
enough to herald the arrival of Giggs.
It hardly needs saying that Giggs' experience provides a calmness in possession that the man he replaced so sadly lacks.
After eulogising so often about the Welshman during their 17 years
together at the top, Ferguson admitted on the eve of this game that he
had run out of things to say about a man who will celebrate his 36th
birthday in November.
Instead these days it is enough to watch. And if he wants to learn,
Nani should have been focussed intently on Giggs just after the hour
mark when he advanced onto Darren Fletcher's pass then, with no
hesitation, rolled a pass straight into the path of Berbatov, who could
not miss.
The Bulgarian's acknowledgement as he ran towards his team-mate showed what he felt.
Thirteen minutes from time, O'Shea was racing towards Giggs in
similar fashion after he had leapt highest to guide a curling free-kick
into the far corner.
After creating those chances for others, it would have been nice if
Giggs could have taken the one provided by Scholes' through ball.
Instead, with entry into United's exclusive 150 club and a 100th
goal in the Premier League waiting, Giggs fired over. Maybe he is not
perfect after all.

O’Shea hails Giggs over Stoke win

Defender John O’Shea has praised Ryan Giggs for guiding Manchester United to a 2-0 victory over Stoke City.O'Shea was making his 350th Man United appearance, and marked the occasion with a goal, courtesy of a well-delivered cross from the evergreen Giggs.
Giggs reeplaced the underperforming Nani after ten minutes of the
second half, and he proceeded to assist Dimitar Berbatov and O'Shea to
score from close range.
"Giggsy's experience of taking up different positions and taking
advantage of any gaps proved crucial," O'Shea told the United official
website.
"The great run he made for the first goal was him all over. The way
he used his experience to get on the blind side of the defender was
brilliant.
"I was really pleased to score especially against a team who are so strong on set pieces.
"It was a great ball in from Giggsy - I said to him I'd try and get
across the 'keeper - and thankfully I was able to knock it in."
The win elevated Man United to the summit of the Premier League
standings and was the Red Devils' seventh win in a row in all
competitions since their defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor, a setback than
O'Shea believe has spurred United on.
"We knew we had to put a good run together after the Burnley defeat which was a freak result," he explained.
"We've always responded well to results like that with a great run
of victories, but the games keep on coming and we've got to keep that
run going."

Manchester United 2-1 Wolfsburg

Manchester came from behind to beat Wolfsburg 2-1 on a night of contrasting fortunes for Michael Owen and Ryan Giggs.Owen's
World Cup dream may have come to a shattering end while the great
survivor Giggs became the ninth player in Manchester United history to
score 150 goals for the club.
Last year's PFA Player of the Year is being championed for a knighthood by sections of the Old Trafford faithful.
After all the plaudits that have accompanied one of the most
astonishing careers of all-time, it is difficult to know what else
there is to give the 35-year-old.
Yet knowing Giggs, victory will be his only prize. And he helped
achieve that tonight by setting up Michael Carrick for the winner 12
minutes from time after Edin Dzeko had put German champions Wolfsburg
in front just after half-time.
If it was a night of glory for Giggs, misery was the only appropriate word for Owen.
Twenty-four hours can be a long time in politics, so the old saying
goes. As he reflected on his misfortune, Owen must have thought the
same is also true of football.
After speaking so forcefully about his World Cup dream and the hopes
of playing for his country again, having done so with such success
before, a racing man like Owen could hardly have hoped for a better
pre-match double than a place in Sir Alex Ferguson's starting line-up
and the sight of Fabio Capello in the stands.
Capello is known to be dubious about Owen's fitness record. Time and
again he has deflected questions over England's fourth-highest
goalscorer by demanding to know how often he has played.
The platform was there for Owen to prove Capello's doubts were unfounded. He lasted 20 minutes.
That the former Liverpool star did little even in that short time to
spark a strangely lethargic United side and his replacement Dimitar
Berbatov made an instant impact only damaged the 29-year-old's cause
still further.
Nothing is certain. But if Owen makes the plane to South Africa from
here, he will have to be either very brilliant, or very lucky.
Berbatov's back-heel that sent Antonio Valencia clean through
immediately showed United were not going to meekly sit back and toss
away a couple of points to the German champions, who have emerged from
nowhere thanks to the backing of car giants Volkswagen.
Having failed in very similar circumstances at Stoke on Saturday,
Valencia could not be trusted to score with any confidence and again
his finish lacked confidence as it bounced wide.
Berbatov also somehow squeezed a pass to Carrick then left him in an even better position.
Unlike Valencia, Carrick has been a capable goalscorer in the past.
The former Tottenham man is not having the best of seasons though
and Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio was out in a flash and made a
fine close-range save.
With their free-scoring strike pair Dzeko and Grafite threatening
and Zvjezdan Misimovic a danger in possession, Wolfsburg could in no
way be described as being overawed.
And, while United were the better side, seeing the visitors opening the scoring was not entirely unexpected.
Makoto Hasebe received a return pass from Grafite and quickly looked
up to see Dzeko on the far post being marked by Patrice Evra.
It was a clear mis-match and the Bosnian had little trouble rising above the Frenchman to steer a header into the bottom corner.
Had United been unable to respond immediately, they would have been in big trouble.
Thankfully for the champions, Giggs found the answer after Anderson had been brought down.
As the 35-year-old's first United goal came thanks to a huge
deflection off Colin Hendry in 1991, there was something symmetrical
about the sight of his 150th ending up in the net in very similar
fashion as the ball cannoned into the Wolfsburg wall and left Benaglio
helpless.
Giggs' contribution did not end there though. After Rooney and
Berbatov had started the move, the Welshman stretched to push a pass
into Carrick's path 12 minutes from time.
Under pressure to score after his earlier failure, Carrick
celebrated like a relieved man as a first-time curling shot nestled in
the net with Benaglio beaten in comprehensive fashion, this time in
more orthodox fashion.
Wolfsburg pressed at the end but Giggs was able to celebrate as a winner - and Owen headed to the treatment table.

FA seek Ferguson explanation

The FA have written to Sir Alex Ferguson, asking him to explain his comments about referee Alan Wiley.Ferguson
claimed the 49-year-old official was unfit after taking charge of his
side's 2-2 draw with Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Having looked at the remarks, the FA have now requested that the United boss explains the reasons behind his outburst.
However, no further action will be taken against Blackburn manager
Sam Allardyce who criticised Peter Walton for not giving Rovers a
penalty in yesterday's 6-2 defeat at Arsenal.
Ferguson's comments have been criticised by Alan Leighton, national
secretary of professionals' union Prospect - who represent referees.
"My main concern is about the unfounded and totally unwarranted remarks about Alan Wiley's fitness," he said.
"Not only does it dig at the heart of Alan's professionalism, where
he is one of our top and longest-serving referees, but it also has an
impact on all the others.
"Sir Alex made comments about other referees and said about European
referees being fit as butchers' dogs, comparing them with some referees
from the UK who aren't fit.
"All of the referees, all of the officials and all of the assistant
referees pass stringent fitness tests at the start of the season.
"Prozone statistics are used to monitor their performance in every
game. If Alan Wiley or any other referee were not fit they would not be
refereeing."
Ironically, on his official Premier Game Match Officials Ltd
profile, Wiley makes a point of highlighting the importance of keeping
up with the physical side of the game.
"Firstly, you have to be fit enough to cope with an ever increasing speed of the game," he said.
After the Sunderland match Ferguson said he thought Wiley was off the pace.
"He was also walking up the pitch for the second goal needing a
rest. He was not fit enough for a game of that standard," said the
United boss.
"The pace of the game demanded a referee who was fit. He was not fit. It is an indictment of our game.
"You see referees abroad who are as fit as butchers' dogs. We have some who are fit. He wasn't fit.
"He was taking 30 seconds to book a player. He was needing a rest. It was ridiculous."
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher - a close friend of Wiley - felt Ferguson's comments were out of order.
"In the 17 years the Premier League has been going this is the first
time I have ever heard a manger use that criticism of a referee,"
Gallagher told Sky Sports News.
"I hear all kinds of things and I have never known a manager to say a referee wasn't fit enough.
"In the year 2009 with the training they have got now, it's the most ridiculous comment I have ever heard.
"The referees are fit for purpose. They are training four, five, six times a week.
"They are training to an intensity which 10 years ago I would never have believed."
Ferguson has frequently courted controversy for his comments about referees over the years.
He was warned about his conduct in 2008 after criticising referee
Martin Atkinson for failing to give United a penalty in the FA Cup
quarter-final defeat to Portsmouth.
And in 2007 he questioned Phil Dowd's competence after the referee
sent off Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney in United's 2-0 Premier League
defeat at Fulham.
Allardyce escaped censure after questioning the quality of
refereeing in the top flight after Walton missed Thomas Vermaelen's
apparent trip on David Dunn.
"It was a blatant penalty. There is no doubt in my mind that the
position of the referee was excellent," said the Blackburn boss.
"He just didn't, unfortunately, give the decision in our favour. It is human beings in a very big pressure position.
"In the big pressure pot that is this league, you have got to get
the major decisions right otherwise you don't stay in this league too
long, not as a manager or a player, so as a referee you have got to be
judged the same.
"They are fully professional now so if they are not good enough, we should find someone who is."

Mana taring United?

pemain gantian, David Ngong muncul pemusnah apabila masing-masingnya
– Agensi

Barnsley 0-2 Manchester United

Holders Manchester United are through to the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup but once again finished a game with only ten men.Gary
Neville was sent off in the second half at Oakwell, following on from
fellow defender Nemanja Vidic in the defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.
Neville's dismissal was the only downside for United who secured
their passage thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck and Michael Owen, his
third of the season.
Ferguson named a completely different starting XI to the one at
Anfield and the youngsters rose to the challenge against Barnsley.
Had the Coca-Cola Championship side shown a cutting edge to match their work rate it might have been a different story.
Ferguson handed a delayed debut to Gabriel Obertan, two months after the winger arrived from Bordeaux.
Obertan, 20, had proved his fitness with three games for the
reserves after a nagging back injury and he should have marked the
occasion by finding the target.
Up against former Old Trafford striker Mark Robins, now Barnsley
manager, United needed only five minutes to make the breakthrough.
It was Welbeck who made his mark just as he did in the last round when he scored the winner against Wolves.
He was allowed a free header when Anderson delivered the corner and took advantage with a clinical finish.
Welbeck almost added a second five minutes later following a superb ball over the top from Anderson.
However goalkeeper Luke Steele prevented his side going two down by making a marvellous block.
Barnsley were again forced on the back foot in the 19th minute and
Obertan should have scored when released by Owen. But again Steele
stood tall and thwarted the Frenchman.
However the home side responded and skipper Stephen Foster was left cursing his luck four minutes later.
His header from Adam Hammill's corner beat goalkeeper Ben Foster but came back off the angle of the post and bar.
Back came United and Welbeck headed over the bar following a cross from Obertan in the 36th minute.
With only one goal separating the teams, Barnsley were by no means
out of it. But there was disbelief around the ground when Daniel
Bogdanovic's ball across the face of the goal seven minutes later was
not picked up.
Owen then squandered a good chance in the 48th minute, scuffing a shot wide after being set up by Welbeck.
Barnsley were making a decent fist of it but Anderson should have done better six minutes later when he failed to test Foster.
Then substitute Zoran Tosic, who had replaced Welbeck, saw his effort narrowly clear the bar in the 57th minute.
Two minutes later Owen showed his class by making it 2-0, clipping
the ball past Steele after getting between Foster and Darren Moore with
Fabio supplying the pass.
However United were reduced to ten men in the 63rd minute when
Neville was handed a straight red by referee Chris Foy for clattering
into the back of Hammill.
Neville, who was on the bench against Liverpool, looked stunned at seeing his time on the pitch come to a premature end.
Anderson then twice came close in quick succession to pulling a goal back for Barnsley but both his headers were wayward.
However they had the bit between their teeth and were anxious to give a full house something to cheer about.
It was not to be though as United kept their shape and their
discipline to move menacingly into the last eight of the competition.

United hampir ikat bintang Valencia

menjual Villa." - Agensi

Ferguson tak bantah

REAKSI Neville (tengah) selepas diarah keluar padang pada pusingan keempat Piala Liga menentang Barnsley
di Stadium Oakwell awal pagi semalam. United menang 2-0.

"Dia (Neville) melakukan terjahan lalu menjatuhkan pemain lawan.
United seawal minit keenam sebelum Michael Owen melepaskan sepakan
cantik untuk gol kedua United, tiga minit sebelum Neville dibuang
padang.
"Ia jaringan yang cukup menarik daripada Owen. Kakinya cukup pantas
Ahad lalu, Ferguson sekali lagi menimbulkan kontroversi apabila
mendakwa pengadil Andre Marriner 'berat sebelah' ketika pertemuan
Dowd pernah mencetus kemarahan Ferguson apabila dia melayangkan kad
- Agensi

United patience over Owen

Manchester United are breaking Michael Owen in
gently at Old Trafford following his surprise free transfer move from
Newcastle in the summer.Owen marked his return to the starting
XI at Barnsley, after being on the bench against Liverpool, with his
third goal of the season in the Carling Cup victory.
It now remains to be seen whether he will retain his place on
Saturday when United return to league business following the 2-0 defeat
at Anfield.
Blackburn are next up at Old Trafford, and assistant manager Mike Phelan is pleased with Owen's progress.
He said: "Michael has come to Manchester United as it a fresh challenge for him.
"We can use him as and when we need to use him. He is not at the forefront of everything.
"It gives him time to prepare and be ready for games like Barnsley.
Alternatively we can bring him on as substitute or start him in a first
team game."
Phelan believes Owen's finishing power has not diminished and his
goal against Barnsley was a prime example of the striker's art.
"Michael is always looking and always on the move," said the assistant boss.
"He was quick to take the shot. He got it out of his feet quickly and caught the keeper by surprise.
"That is the quality of Michael Owen and those qualities are of benefit to us."
Meanwhile, United have submitted a claim of mistaken identity to the
Football Association after Fabio da Silva was booked by referee Chris
Foy against Barnsley.
Instead the offender - for a challenge on Jamal Campbell-Ryce - was his twin brother Rafael.
The FA confirmed they have been approached by United and the submission will be heard on Tuesday by a regulatory commission.
The Brazilian twins helped United secure a place in the last eight
of the competition thanks to a 2-0 victory against the Coca-Cola
Championship side.
However the holders finished the game with 10 men after Foy sent off Gary Neville for clattering into Adam Hammill.
Neville is now ruled out of the Blackburn match as he starts a
three-match suspension while Darren Fletcher remains doubtful with a
groin problem.

Manchester United 2-0 Blackburn

Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney goals got Manchester United back on track in the Barclays Premier League.Sir
Alex Ferguson's side had enough chances to notch up a bigger scoreline
but substitute Gabriel Obertan missed a couple of sitters.
Berbatov made the breakthrough in the 55th minute but it was not until two minutes from time Rooney made the points safe.
It means they keep the pressure on Chelsea and Arsenal at the top of the table in their aim to win a fourth successive title.
United must have wondered how they were still on level terms at half-time given the amount of possession they enjoyed.
As early as the third minute Nani sent a 20-yard shot whistling past
the post following a marvellous crossfield pass from Wes Brown.
A mistake by Blackburn defender Chris Samba let in Antonio Valencia
10 minutes later but he failed to take advantage and scuffed a shot off
target.
It was a clear opportunity and Blackburn looked nervous at the back
at this stage following the mauling by Chelsea last weekend and nine
straight defeats on the road.
However the visitors responded in the 21st minute and El-Hadji Diouf
got into a good position, only for John O'Shea to make a crucial
interception.
United stepped up the pressure and Pascal Chimbonda did well to
block a shot from Berbatov in the 29th minute after Patrice Evra played
the ball in.
A minute later Berbatov nearly made the breakthrough with a downward header following a cross from Valencia.
However goalkeeper Paul Robinson reacted superbly and turned the Bulgarian's effort over the bar.
Blackburn responded and Samba peeled away from his marker as David Dunn delivered the corner, only to head wide of the target.
It was brief respite for the visitors as Berbatov was again denied by Robinson in the 34th minute after being set up by Rooney.
This was a difficult spell for Blackburn and Berbatov found the net
after Rooney had squared the ball to him in the 40th minute, only to be
ruled offside.
Then Nani misdirected his header from inside the area following a corner from Valencia as Blackburn held out until half-time.
United pushed forward in the 53rd minute after Nani won the ball off Gael Givet.
The midfielder attempted to release Rooney but the pass was hopelessly misplaced and the move broke down.
Anderson then picked out Evra, who had raced into the area, only for his touch to let him down and Robinson was able to collect.
United made the breakthrough when Berbatov showed good skill when he got on the end of a cross from Evra.
He got the better of Ryan Nelsen, twisting and turning before sending a shot beyond Robinson for his fourth goal of the season.
United boss Ferguson decided to make a change after 64 minutes bringing on Obertan for the ineffective Nani.
Obertan made a delayed debut in the Carling Cup victory against Barnsley in midweek after recovering a back injury.
He almost made a dream start in the 67th minute following a defence splitting pass by Anderson.
Former Bordeaux winger Obertan raced away only to send a weak shot into the arms of a grateful Robinson.
Berbatov came off in the 79th minute and replaced by Michael Owen, who scored in the cup victory against Barnsley.
United should have extended their lead in the 83rd minute but
Obertan again fluffed his lines. Clear in front of goal as Valencia
played the ball into his path, he snatched at the chance and sent his
effort wide.
Obertan then had a hand in United's second goal in the 88th minute when he found Anderson on the left flank.
The Brazilian sent a good ball into the area and Rooney was the first to react with a sweet finish.
Substitute Nikola Kalinic found the net for Blackburn in stoppage
time but his effort was ruled offside before Owen sent a shot wide.

United bertuah sebab Rooney

ROONEY dimasukkan sebagai pemain gantian ketika menentang CSKA Moscow di Old Trafford semalam.

LONDON - Tuah anak.
pagi semalam.
Begitupun, United nyaris dimalukan CSKA Moscow apabila sekadar
ke-25 sebelum Michael Owen menyamakan kedudukan empat minit kemudian.
gantian pada minit ke-57 sebelum Paul Scholes menjaringkan gol kedua The Red Devils enam minit sebelum perlawanan berakhir.

United bukan saingan Chelsea

TERRY berjaya menanduk masuk gol kemenangan The Blues di Stamford Bridge malam tadi.

LONDON - Chelsea terus mengukuhkan kedudukan mereka sebagai
pendahulu Liga Perdana England selepas menundukkan pencabar utama,
Perlawanan lain pula menyaksikan Hull City menewaskan Stoke City
2-1, Everton menang 2-1 ke atas West Ham United manakala Wigan Athletic
dan Fulham pula seri 1-1.

Obertan targets regular spot

Manchester United new-boy Gabriel Obertan has given himself a year to become an Old Trafford regular.Obertan joined the Red Devils from Bordeaux this summer after a recommendation from former player Laurent Blanc.
However, the France Under-21 star's career immediately stalled when
he was forced to undergo knee surgery that kept him out for the best
part of four months.
Obertan finally made his debut in the Carling Cup victory at
Barnsley last month and has since gone on to make two more appearances
for Sir Alex Ferguson's men - both as a substitute.
Although he has looked a little raw at times, particularly in the
Premier League encounter with Blackburn when he fired wide when it
looked easier to score from six yards with the goal at his mercy,
Obertan has shown a smart turn of pace and that he has an abundance of
skill.
He appears to have a pretty determined streak too, judging by the
timescale he has set for forcing his way into Ferguson's starting
line-up on a regular basis.
"I wanted to feel part of the squad and be involved in the games, so I am feeling really good right now," said the 20-year-old.
"At first I just want to be part of the squad, be in the group that
travels to all the games, and get a few minutes on the pitch.
"But I have ambition. If I keep working hard and show what I can do, why not aim to be a regular in the team?
"I might need a year to achieve that, but I hope I can do it."

Manchester United 3-0 Everton

Darren Fletcher added another entry to his CV as he launched Manchester United on their way to a 3-0 victory over Everton.Although
they were already well on top against the Merseysiders who, apart from
a brief five-minute second-half flurry were completely outclassed,
United were struggling to make the breakthrough until Fletcher fired
home a magnificent volley.
Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia were also on target to complete
the Red Devils' biggest win since August and ensure they heeded Sir
Alex Ferguson's pre-match call for a more clinical attitude.
Over the past 12 months, Fletcher has emerged as one of the most influential players in the Premier League.
The Scot's style might not be to everyone's taste - Arsene Wenger labelled him "anti-football" earlier this season.
But his value to the Red Devils is immeasurable, to the point he was
shifted to right-back when Paul Scholes was introduced after an hour.
Indeed, May's sobering Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in
May was part of a sequence that has seen Fletcher miss seven of
United's last nine defeats.
His effectiveness, it has to be admitted, is mostly destructive.
However, he scored twice in the thrilling derby win over Manchester
City in September and Fletcher is making a point of getting himself
into goalscoring positions more often.
He did not exactly have the Everton goal at his mercy though as
Antonio Valencia stretched to nod a deep Patrice Evra cross into his
path 10 minutes before the break.
On the edge of the area, surrounded by visiting defenders, David Moyes might even have been relatively relaxed.
How wrong he would have been. With one swinging boot of the right
foot, Fletcher sent the ball curling into the top corner, giving former
team-mate Tim Howard no chance.
The goal at least provided United with some tangible reward for their overwhelming domination of possession.
Chances were at a premium, with Wayne Rooney going close and Ryan Giggs testing Howard, both efforts from the edge of the area.
Ferguson could not have had that in mind when he penned programme
notes that called for a more clinical edge and a return to the form
that saw United score five at Wigan, three at Tottenham and four to
beat City.
Indeed, Everton, for all their failure to keep hold of the ball,
also had a couple of decent long-range efforts, through Jack Rodwell
and Louis Saha - returning to Old Trafford for the first time since
calling time on his four-and-a-half injury-plagued years at the start
of last season.
Moyes was more vexed about an aerial collision between Nemanja Vidic
and Johnny Heitinga that left the Dutchman with a nasty cut to his
head, the inference from the Everton camp was clearly that an elbow had
been used.
It was a point Moyes made to the fourth official at half-time,
although by that stage he had decided direct intervention was needed.
The introduction of Ayegbeni Yakubu for Dan Gosling took a while to
have an impact but for a five-minute spell just after the hour mark, it
had the hosts in trouble.
Everton's best chance fell to the Nigerian himself after he had muscled his way round Wes Brown.
Yakubu has scored for three previous clubs - Maccabi Haifa,
Portsmouth and Middlesbrough - against United and must have thought he
had completed a remarkable four-timer when he sent his shot fizzing
towards the bottom corner.
Edwin Van der Sar was struggling but, unfortunately for the visitors, it went just wide.
It was just the invitation United needed to seal the contest.
By his own high standards, Giggs had endured a quiet evening.
But, in exactly the right position to retrieve a Rooney shot that
would have gone for a throw, the veteran Welshman quickly spotted
Carrick on the edge of the area.
It is just the situation Carrick thrives on and he placed a low, precise shot into the corner, again leaving Howard helpless.
Valencia bagged a third when he strode on to Scholes' lay-off to
ensure United remained five points adrift of Chelsea and, with injuries
beginning to bite at Arsenal, the title race already looks to be
narrowing to two.
