Marilah kita mendoakan kesejahteraan kepada mangsa2 bot karam di kepulauan bangi , kudat sabah pada 27hb Nov 2009. Menurut sumber dari mangsa bot karam yg masih hidup, kejadian disebabkan oleh lebihan muatan dan ombak bergelora. Dipercayai seramai 28 orang mangsa telah terlibat dalam tragedi bot karam ini. Ianya juga telah melibatkan ahli siolooner iaitu En. Halim abd khadir (nei_feng) tetapi terselamat kerana berjaya berpaut pada kotak peti ais selama beberapa jam sebelum di temui bot nelayan. Amat mendugacitakan keluarga saudara siolooner (h412am) iaitu suzanna saiman dan ahli keluarganya telah meninggal dunia dan masih seorang belum ditemui setakat hari ini 30 nov 2009 daripada 5 org sekeluarga. Jadi marilah kita sama2 kepada mangsa dan juga yang telah meninggal dunia agar dapat menerima hakikat dengan tenang.

KOTA KINABALU: The body of one of the 10 people missing from Thursday’s boat capsize tragedy in Banggi waters, has been recovered.

The body of Akmal bin Sudin, 19, was found by fishermen in the waters near Pulau Molleanggan at about 7am yesterday, bringing the death toll to six.

Kudat police chief DSP Dawi Ossen when contacted by New Sabah Times said the weather improved slightly yesterday and that they were searching for the remaining nine missing persons.

To question, he said they were not sure if the remaining missing persons could be found (on Sunday) but the search and rescue operation would continue at first light on Monday.

On Friday, the bodies of Mazlan Zaini, 40, and his son, Akif, 6, were found at about 1.30pm while three more bodies were recovered the following day.

All victims are family members and relative of a former Assemblyman Yahya Othman, 61. One of the nine still missing is Yahya’s daughter.

The wooden passenger boat carrying 28 people and crew were leaving Kudat for Banggi island when it capsized in rough seas at about 8.30pm on Thursday, some two nautical miles from the island.

Thirteen of them were rescued by passing fishermen after they managed to stay afloat by clinging on to wooden planks for some six hours.

The search and rescue operation involved the marine police, police air wing, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the army.


Meanwhile, Banggi Assemblyman Abdul Mijul Unaini has advised passenger boat operators in Banggi to ensure their boats are in good condition.

“This is to ensure this boat tragedy won’t recur in future,” he said.

And, Abdul Mijul also urged the authorities to carry out regular inspections on the passenger boats so as to make sure the operators comply with the safety requirements.

He added that two of the boats currently operating between Kudat and Banggi island were not new ones and therefore they ought to be inspected.

Yesterday, Abdul Mijul who is also the Umno Kudat deputy chief handed over a donation from the division to Yahya.

“We hope our small contribution can help reduce the family’s burden,” he said.

Kudat: Police recovered three more bodies of Thursday's Banggi boat tragedy, raising the death toll of one of the worst boat mishaps in Sabah to five.

The number of missing passengers has also risen to 10 based on police reports from family members and relatives, said District Police Chief, DSP Dawi Ossen.

The bodies retrieved on Saturday were identified as Land and Survey Department staff, Mazlan Zaini, 40; his 6-year-old son Haqif Surkawi Mazlan and relative Aizum Nazihah Sudin, 18, a Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic student.

The first body was found at 1pm, the second an hour later while the third at about 4pm. Three bodies were recovered on Friday, of which only two were identified. They were Hajah Ameng Nordin, in her 70s, and Suzana Saiman, 43.

The third unidentified body of a man fell back into the sea in Inaruntong while being transported here by fishermen and remains on the missing list.

In the incident on Thursday, a boat with 28 people onboard capsized in bad weather about an hour after leaving the Kudat jetty for Pulau Banggi, off here. Most of the passengers were from a family of 21 people from Papar who were on their way to Pulau Banggi for the Aidiladha. Thirteen people survived the tragedy.

Dawi said Haqif's body was found in waters off Kampung Malubang by fishermen while those of Mazlan and Aizum at Tanjung Spirak. All the bodies were handed over to marine police.

The marine police, police air wing unit, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, navy and army are also continuing efforts to find the 10 missing victims as well as the ill-fated "bot kampung".

"We believe the boat could have sunk near Pulau Molleangan Kecil, which is about 20 nautical miles from Kudat," Dawi said. A helicopter had been sent to scour the area.

Former Berjaya Assemblyman Yahya Othman, 61, who was rescued from the sea lodged a police report to clarify a television news claim that only four people were missing.

"The news said four were missing but there were more," he said. Apart from several others, 21 of his family members were on the boat when the tragedy occurred.

"I was afraid that the rescue team will stop the search after recovering just four bodies," he said.
