katarak kongenital dalam bahasa perubatan. Katarak kongenital ialah
satu keadaan di mana kanta mata yang asalnya bersifat jernih dan lut
cahaya telah bertukar menjadi keruh dan keadaan ini dikesan selepas
kelahiran.

Keadaan katarak
kongenital yang berlaku pada satu mata sahaja merupakan kes
jarang-jarang berlaku. Pesakit yang mengalami katarak kongenital pada
satu mata sahaja biasanya turut mengalami kecacatan kongenital mata
yang lain seperti keabnormalan struktur hadapan mata, keabnormalan
struktur primer vitreous (gelemaca) dan satu keadaan dikenali sebagai
lentikonus posterior

penyakit ini juga disebabkan bom nuclear, terdapat di ww2, hiroshima kena bomb..

Kanak-kanak
yang mengalami gejala klinikal seperti yang dinyatakan perlu menjalani
pemeriksaan yang menyeluruh oleh doktor pakar mata. Pesakit yang
mengalami gangguan penglihatan yang serius pula mungkin perlu menjalani
pembedahan.
