The aim of Adventure Inlay is to fill mosaic figures with gemlike puzzle pieces. Traditional mode works just like Magic Inlay, where you have to act quickly enough to prevent the line of incoming pieces from overloading. Magic tools let you destroy a jewel you can't fit or fill in an empty space. If you can't fit a jewel into a figure, you can drag it to the discard box. It takes a while to process each jewel.

The game adds three additional gameplay modes to the mix. In Strategery mode, each piece you place, destroy, or discard moves the mosaic figures one step further to the left; if an empty spot reaches the left margin, you lose. Revealer mode works like Traditional mode, except that placing a gem reveals another piece of the underlying picture. Enigma mode presents you with a mosaic and a set number and type of gems with which to fill it. The only problem is the game requires RealOne Arcade, which can be intrusive and time-consuming. Adventure Inlay provides a welcome challenge for puzzle gamers, especially if they already have RealOne Arcade installed.
