What is SQ?

There's a misunderstanding that SQ(Sound Quality) is a system that can't play loud. Stock system also can't play loud but that's far from a real SQ system. So what is Sound Quality? SQ is that aspect of a sound system, which encompasses all of the performance factors which give the system the ability to re-produce an accurate and life-like rendition of the original recording as perfectly as possible. It includes factors such as tonality, ambience, subtle nuance, system gain structure, dynamics,transient response, and the list goes on and on.
SQ is a combination of all these technical factors as well as proper
speaker placement and proper system design. When a system is said to have perfect SQ, it generates the most accurate sound possible, with a sense of musical realism that gives the listener the impression that they "hear" a live performance right in front of them, as if the listener was in the audience watching the actual performers on an actual stage. Now, to get this realistic musical "sound stage" in a car, it takes careful system planning, speaker placement, and tuning.

update :- taaron : the center image problem was rectified ... i've discovered the best way of tuning TA...it improves significantly...& i did some tonal balance too..now i can say im satisfied with active system after playing with it like crazy for almost 2 years tuning tuning tuning tuning ...i dare to say my next system in my other car will be active too...

some advise to new readers who wanna play sq---go passive, it will make ur life happier with your newly installed sys.,& i dont mean it should be mcintosh..any good HU with 4v 3 rca preout will do + a very good speakers

Apakah rahsia TA ko itu sifu Power? Sa buat TA selama ni guna kesan Doppler saja...gerenti dijamin berkesan...

hehe apa macam tu kesan doppler....aku guna lagu instrumental yg ada sense of space..bleh rasa tu muzik sebelah driver keluar dari tingkap...hehe ukur ja jaraknya dari kiri kanan

rudy: macam good news ni, significant improvement lagitu so, what have u done to rectify the problem? share2 with us your findings on TA tuning.. btw, ur next system can also go for passive too, provided with bi-wire/tri-wire capability, very flexible with tuning..

ya very good news, always discovered smthing new when i started to lose hope hehe....dunno how to explain it here by typing...need to do some drawing & talking to explain....march aku datang kk lg...bleh try explain n try it together...but i can say, Dont tune the 'VOCAL' to the center..it will ruin everything & it will be better to play sony xplod passive than high end active hehe...the new tuning will naturally n automatically set the vocal dead center of ur dashboard..hahaha..hopefully the technique will work with ur system too

sounds complex, will wait for u for the ajaran sesat hehe...recently i felt kinda reluctant to do adjustments on my setup, happy listening and enjoying music, but will try out ur technique later on to feel the difference.. btw, have u tried independent L and R eq adjustments for a balanced FR and vocal centering?

i thought usually we TA delay the nearest speakers rite?

my TA method (cincai style)

1) align both Left and Right Midbass (disable other speakers) to achieve my preferable center image..only delay added on Right Midbass, zero delay for Left Midbass
2) align Left Midbass with Sub (disable other speakers)..only delay added on Left Midbass, zero delay for Sub
3) any delay added on the Left Midbass from Step 2, will be also added the same amount of delay to the Right Midbass
4) Add delay to Right Tweeter

haha..dunno how you guys think of my TA method above...but seems fine with me for my daily listening..

Sa pun mo tau cara sifu power buat TA juga ni, kita share2lah sini....btw mo buat tu doppler effect ko kena ada tu correlated pink noise....cara dia senang saja....yg penting ko boleh tau bila tu doppler effect berlaku....telinga kena bersihlah macam tu...kalau x susah mo tangkap tu doppler effect....

while listening to the pink noise, try moving back and forth the knob for the TA delay adjustments, you may hear the difference (something to do with the change of phase), but i dunno how to describe it..ngam ka andrew??

Yeap ngamlah tu Sifu Taaron...ni ada kena mengena dengan interaction antara dua speaker yang mengeluarkan bunyi yg sama.....kita akan dengar kesan doppler kalau dia berada pada fasa yang sama....tapi make sure ko guna correlated pink noise....not the uncorrelated one...

Tapi jgn korang align mid dgn mid or tweet dgn tweet....doppler effect x akan dpt dikesan kalau buat macam tu....

apa2 saja final as long as correlated pink noise...correlated mean mono pink noise...both channel playing the same pink noise...uncorrelated mean stereo pink noise....maksud dia both channel playing a different pink noise...

Lets try wit the sub and the mid bass 1st...u will be supprise to find out how easy it is to get your sub upfront with no effort at all....as long as you can detect the doppler effect properly ....btw dalam ko dial tu TA tu doppler effect akan berulang2 beberapa kali....paling penting ko dpt kesan the 1st doppler effect....untuk kasih align sub dgn mid bass senang saja cos tu doppler effect kuat kedengaran....ko akan dengar tu bunyi bergerak macam tu siren polis dalam vdo d atas tu.....after that you will be suprise to find out how centred your mid bass will be....on the dashboard....

andrew's tools might be useful to tune ta effectively..aku punya pkai 1 lagu ja n ukur pakai telinga..

ko disable soma speakers yang lain cuma enable passenger side mid bass and sub saja. Then ko play tu correlated pink noise. Biar tu sub punya TA sebagai 0 then ko pg passenger side punya TA n tune di sana sampai ko dengar the 1st doppler effect....sudah puas hati...disable tu passnger side mid bass then enable driver side mid bass...sub masih besambung...then tune tu TA sampai ko dengar doppler effect...sudah puas hati...ko sambung semula tu passenger side mid bass...then pasang tu correlated pink noise...dengar dia punya staging, depth dll...kalau x puas hati repeat the same procedure....kalau x dpt dengar juga tu doppler effect try kasih overlap tu sub and mid bass punya crossover...untuk sub n mid bass mmg senang mo dengar tu doppler effect berbanding dengan mid n tweet...siap tu ko try dengar macam mana upfront bass ko....and macam mana centred midbass ko....tapi jgn dulu sambung tweet n mid...

Cuma satu saja problem dia....kena latih telinga untuk kenal bila tu 1st doppler effect keluar....bila sudah siap semua kasih balik tu crossover point pg yg normal...and play lagu dari test cd ko...

untuk mid and tweet repeat the same procedure....

ko align sub dgn midbass then mid bass dgn mid and then mid dgn tweet...the same procedure...mula2 stress juga tu...mmg susah mo tangkap tu doppler effect kalau tia biasa....sampai berminggu2 belum tentu dpt..tapi kalau telinga ko bersih...boleh tu...mula dgn sub and mid bass dulu...senang sikit mo tangkap...ko tekan ja tu TA ko turun naik...laju2 or pelan2...sampai ko dpt kesan tu doppler effect..
